Around 45 minutes west of town, Monsoon Valley Vineyard stretches across a sheltered valley where rows of vines follow the contours of the hills and Thailand’s tropical climate produces wines with a character of their own.
The estate is the flagship home of Monsoon Valley Wines, a producer that has helped establish the idea of “new latitude” winemaking. Grape varieties more commonly associated with traditional wine regions grow here in loamy sand and slate soils, supported by the valley’s cooling ocean breezes and an approach to viticulture shaped by years of experimentation.
A guided vineyard tour introduces visitors to this unusual growing environment and explains how the vines adapt to tropical conditions. Wine tastings provide an opportunity to explore the estate’s premium and flagship ranges, while the surrounding countryside gives the experience a sense of escape that begins well before the first glass is poured.
At the heart of the property, The Sala Wine Bar & Bistro occupies an elegant Thai-inspired pavilion overlooking the vineyard. Its menus are designed with wine pairing in mind, making lunch here a natural centrepiece for the visit. The view invites a slower pace: rolling greenery, distant hills and the quiet order of the vines stretching across the valley.
Guests who prefer a more active afternoon can explore the vineyard’s mountain-bike trails, while bottle-painting sessions offer a relaxed and creative souvenir of the day. The estate’s range of experiences allows a visit to be shaped around food, wine, scenery or a combination of all three.
From April through October, Monsoon Valley is open daily from 9am to 7pm, with last orders at 6.30pm. Between November and March, opening hours extend until 8pm, with last orders at 7.30pm. Reservations are recommended for vineyard visits, dining and shuttle services.
